Chemical facial peels: Which is better: Glycolic acid (10%) vs Modified Jessner (14%)?

I'm considering one of these to treat light-mild scarring and hyperpigmentation, but I've heard that the Jessner peel (and pretty much all chemical peels actually) can cause hyperpigmentation to worsen in some cases. Thoughts? Keep in mind that the two options I am considering are relatively low in acid concentration (10% and 14%). Anyone had either one of these? I'll just be getting one treatment (not a series).Chemical facial peels: Which is better: Glycolic acid (10%) vs Modified Jessner (14%)?
I had the Glycolic acid I think it was 10 or 15 maybe...

I honestly never heard of the jessner peel! but the glycolic acid peel will get rid of the pigmentation...

Hey if your only going to get one treatment..depending on the mild scarring and hymperpigmentation you have..u might want to go one that is higher...

My mom had the 25% done..she burned burned burned..but her skin afterwards was like baby's skin..it looked really really goodd...U might want to go for 15% that's the medium one soo

Ask your deramatologist he'll have a better idea on what will get rid of them!

Skin is peeling from 12% glycolic acid?

can someone help define this for me? ThanksSkin is peeling from 12% glycolic acid?
Your skin is supposed to peel after an application of glycolic acid.

Anyone have experience with glycolic or lactic acid peels for hyperpigmented acne scars on your back or chest?

I've already had one peel on my back for my hyperpigmented superficial acne scars, and I'm getting my second one this Saturday. I think she did a glycolic/lactic acid peel, and there was definitely some sloughing of skin after the first 36-48 hours. It didn't peel a whole lot, but she said this time she would do a more intense peel since I reacted so well.

Only thing is, prom is the Saturday AFTER my peel, and my dress is strapless, so I don't want to have a whole bunch of gross peeling on prom. The peeling the first time only lasted about 2 days but she said that next time I get a peel it'll work better and be more aggressive.

Can you please share your experiences of your chemical peels in the past, how many you had to have to fade your scars, and how much it peeled the second or third peel you received?Anyone have experience with glycolic or lactic acid peels for hyperpigmented acne scars on your back or chest?
your answer is in this site

What peels are best? Glycolic acid? trichloroacetic acid? OTHERS? what has best results? least marks after?

The home peels are at such low concentration, that apart from marketing bogus, it will not be any big difference if you take glycolic, lactic or whatever. They all give you a light chemical exfoliation that results in a slightly more glowing skin.

TCA (Trichloracetic) peels are available ONLY to doctors. I am a cosmiatrist and I don麓t use these peels myself (unless it麓s neutralized in a clay mask). I doubt you will have access to the real acids, unless you are a cosmiatrist yourself, and then why are you asking this? But if you have, please abstain. Why not trust a cosmiatrist with something so delicate and potentially harmful and dangerous! You may end up with a burn! Is it becasue it麓s expensive? Ever think why it麓s expensive? Apart from the responsability I take every time I perform a peel, I did a very expensive and 3 month long training specifically in acids. Each is better for a different skin condition, some can be combined for a better effect, and each is potentially dangerous. Please don麓t skimp on the important things like your skin: you can麓t exchange a damaged one. What peels are best? Glycolic acid? trichloroacetic acid? OTHERS? what has best results? least marks after?
Why would anyone want to induce a chemical burn on their FACE? You absorb this stuff through your skin - like a medicated skin patch...

These chemicals affect all of your organs after being dermally absorbed.

Your skin is an organ, would would you induce a chemical burn on your liver?

Should I consider getting a glycolic acid peel?

My skin type: Oily, acne prone, somewhat sensitive

My regimen: Wash, toner, and thoroughly moisturize twice a day. I use a mask/scrub 2-3 times a week. Most of my products are from Clinique.

My problem: Continual buildup of dead cells that flake off in very large ';sheets';. No matter how much I exfoliate my skin is still flaky, which is strange because I have oily skin.

Why I'm thinking of getting a peel: to help remove the top dead layers so my acne treatments can work better, as well as have smoother skin.

Why I'm thinking of NOT getting one: My skin is still ';virgin.'; I haven't had many extremely harsh products on my skin and I'm worried that I'm too young to start damaging my skin (i'm 17.)

What do you think?

The product I was considering buying is the Clinique turnaround radiance peel.Should I consider getting a glycolic acid peel?
You are way too young to be considering a peel. If you are concerned with a build up of dead skin, go to a dermatologist %26amp; get microdermabrasion. What it is, is a small light sandpaper like circular shape that they rotate around to lift the dead cells %26amp; it has a small vacuum (like the suction thing at a dentist) %26amp; it sucks up all the dead cells %26amp; unclogs your pores.

It will be the best thing for your skin type %26amp; age.Should I consider getting a glycolic acid peel?
Absolutely not! You still have baby skin, no matter problems or not! Do not do anyting that drastic.

You are over doing your face with too much regimine. Try water and a very soft cloth for the next few weeks and forget all the cleaners, scrubs, and toners!

There is such a thing as overdoing it, and you definately are! Everyone is diferent, and there are people that do that weekly and it does their skin good, your problems are over doing the stripping. Let your skin breath for a while, let nature do its thing, let natural oils soften and nurish that skin all on its own.

When, *if, you go back to a regime, change brands. The stripping of sheets of skin is a reaction to one of the things, so start new and see what happens after a few day or weeks, you may see improvment or not. Id start slowly though.

You are listing to too many commercials, or too many friends or sales people.

I hope you take this advice, you most likely see an improvment to your skin, its pretty damaged right now, and all those chems and scrubs are the reason!
it sounds like your skin has acclimated to the extensive regimen of many additives, which is to say that ';cleansing'; it by purifying it with dry product and adding less natural moisturizers is causing it to compensate for the fluctuation by flaking and producing excess oils. at 17 (i'm 23 now) my skin was more oily as well, and now can be dry, like perhaps yours is (though i don't flake in sheets).

i suggest more intensive treatments like the clinique product or even a professional peel only after you relegate your skin care techniques to more...subtle activity. since you're at an age metabolically speaking where your body chemistry is making your skin all crazy, it might be more prudent to go back to basics first. an oil free face wash, like a clean %26amp; clear morning burst or something more expensive if you prefer. it's doubly effective as a cleanser and eliminates the harsh astringency of a toner, which i don't suggest trying to acclimate to at your body's age. then, before bed, you can use a small dollop of vaseline, rub it between your palms to soften it, and smear a thin layer over your face. it's cheap cheap CHEAP and is my secret miracle ingredient, it won't clog your pores at all. this will keep your skin from flaking and stabilize your moisture levels. other than that, also ';de-frequent'; how often you exfoliate and mask, maybe once a weekish? this will also help stabilize your conflicting skin issues, as it is possible to do these things waaaay too much.

regardless, if your skin battles the simplicity, nothing's wrong with a glycolic sugar peel for normal skin. i'd wait for the ultimate last resort if your skin is as sensitive as you say it is, though, no good can come of putting it through too much

good luck
That peel is very harsh. I love Clinique and have used it for many years. Yet, I couldn't handle the peel. It left my skin dry and felt it did nothing for my skin.

Have you considered Total Turnaround Concentrate, also by Clinique. This is a serum based time-released exfoliator that approves the tone and texture of skin overtime. It is excellent!

Also try Moisture Surge Extra Thirsty Skin Relief. This most definitely helps with flakes, and is a gel so you can use it on top of anything, even makeup.

I also put Jojoba oil in my moisturizer. Yes, it is called an oil, but is really a wax. It is the closest thing to our natural sebum and really helps with dryness as well as skin clarity.

Go to a dermatologist and they will help you find a solution without having to get a peel.

Check out Olay, too. Their regenerist line I heard is wonderful and there may be products for you. My sister loves this line.
I've been in that situation and there is really nothing you can do about it. There are things you can do to try to reduce the blemishes and get rid of acne/pimples temporarily but you will always be finding yourself cleaning your face or your body depending on where it's at.

I mean of course your acne should go away eventually but for some this is the case their whole life.

I'm 29 years old and have been suffering from these little pests since I was a teenager. I tried all sorts of face washes from the local grocery store and what not, but nothing seemed to work. If anything it would just make my skin dry and itchy.

Literally the best acne face wash I've ever used has been this stuff called clearpores. It has got rid of the acne to quickest and has been a success ever since I got it. It's unique cause of it's herbal supplement you take a long with it that helps your skin from the inside out. I saved money on it at skincleansingsystem dot com at the time which was helpful.

You should really look into this stuff and if you can to assure the best results, get the 3 month supply because if it doesn't work it will still save you butt on the return policy.

Well good luck and best wishes.

Is it effective in reducing pigmentation marks and blemishes?Has anyone used the No.7 Glycolic Acid Peel?
hi, I like your avartar, he looks so puffy and cute! but well, I don't know No.7 Glycolic acid peel. I never used it but I wanted to suggest you the nordic skin peel of skyn Iceland. its expensive but very well, cool off the skin, giving the balance to the skin and cure all problems about acnes, pigmentation marks and acnes blemish.Has anyone used the No.7 Glycolic Acid Peel?
Yes it's good but only after around the 3rd time you use it. The first couple of times it can cause skin to break out and get a bit irritated - this is normal when you first start to use any glycolic acid product. The longer term results are good but I wouldn't advise using it just before a special occasion.
    Hello,

Well, i havent used the No 7 One, but i use Glycolic acid peel and it works, but you have to keep on applying it like weekly but i do it once a month. It improves the skin layer and reveals newer skin takes all the dead skin away. i use the moisturiser and also the night cream.

    Hope i helped you out.
I tried it but because i have quite sensible skin its not really suitablefor me. I think its always hard to answer questions like this as everybody reacts different. Why dont you go to Boots and ask if they have some samples for you? You might be lucky

www.google.com has a great deal of information that you could use to find your answers , while yahoo answer is more likely to be better for people's opinions.. thanks. How Long Does GLYCOLIC ACID PEEL TAKE TO PEEL OFF SKIN?
The frequency of application and peeling of the skin depends on the strength of the glycolic preparation. Glycolic acid also comes in creams, lotions, and solutions.

If you're using the glycolic acid once a week, I'm gathering it's a solution. You should see it peel right away. If it's not a solution (cream or lotion)at 15-20%, you should apply it more often, such as every other day to see the peeling happen.

    Skin Peels (DCL Glycolic acid)?

I have some acne scarring and my clinician has advised a course of Glyclic Acid treatment. My skin is also congested and ageing.

Has anyone tried it and would you recmmend it, as I don't want to end up with more scarring etc. Also, if you can recommend a clinic in Birmingham, UK or, in London.Skin Peels (DCL Glycolic acid)?
i would ask about dermabrasion first. see all info below.

    http://www.plasticsurgery.org/public_edu鈥?/a>

    If you're considering a skin-refinishing treatment...

Dermabrasion and dermaplaning help to ';refinish'; the skin's top layers through a method of controlled surgical scraping. The treatments soften the sharp edges of surface irregularities, giving the skin a smoother appearance.

Dermabrasion is most often used to improve the look of facial skin left scarred by accidents or previous surgery, or to smooth out fine facial wrinkles, such as those around the mouth. It's also sometimes used to remove the pre-cancerous growths called keratoses. Dermaplaning is commonly used to treat deep acne scars.

Both dermabrasion and dermaplaning can be performed on small areas of skin or on the entire face. They can be used alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as facelift, scar removal or revision, or chemical peel.

If you're considering surgery to refinish the skin, this information will give you a basic understanding of the procedure-when it can help, how it's performed, and what results you can expect. It can't answer all of your questions, since a lot depends on your individual circumstances. Please ask your doctor about anything you don't understand.

    CONSIDERING ALTERNATIVE PROCEDURES

If you're planning ';surface repairs'; on your face, you may also be considering chemical peel, an alternative method of surgically removing the top layer of skin. However, dermabrasion and dermaplaning use surgical instruments to remove the affected skin layers, while chemical peel uses a caustic solution.

Many plastic surgeons perform all three procedures, selecting one or a combination of procedures to suit the individual patient and the problem. Others prefer one technique for all surface repairs. In general, chemical peel is used more often to treat fine wrinkles, and dermabrasion and dermaplaning for deeper imperfections such as acne scars. A non-chemical approach may also be preferred for individuals with slightly darker skin, especially when treating limited areas of the face, since dermabrasion and dermaplaning are less likely to produce extreme changes and contrasts in skin color.

If you'd like more information on chemical peel, ask your plastic surgeon for the ASPS brochure on that topic.

    THE BEST CANDIDATES FOR DERMABRASION

Dermabrasion and dermaplaning can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but neither treatment will remove all scars and flaws or prevent aging. Before you decide to have a skin-refinishing treatment, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon.

Men and women of all ages, from young people to older adults, can benefit from dermabrasion and dermaplaning. Although older people heal more slowly, more important factors are your skin type, coloring, and medical history. For example, black skin, Asian skin, and other dark complexions may become permanently discolored or blotchy after a skin-refinishing treatment. People who develop allergic rashes or other skin reactions, or who get frequent fever blisters or cold sores, may experience a flare-up. If you have freckles, they may disappear in the treated area.

In addition, most surgeons won't perform treatment during the active stages of acne because of a greater risk of infection. The same may be true if you've had radiation treatments, a bad skin burn, or a previous chemical peel.

Light peeling is a chemical treatment designed to remove superficial layers of the skin. It is used to help ';dry out'; active acne, to reduce shallow wrinkles and scarring and in some cases to lighten hyperpigmented spots.

Before the solution is applied, your skin is cleansed with alcohol then acetone. It would be helpful if you do not wear any face make up on the day of your office visit.

The solution is applied with a feather brush by our nurse. Because the solution is a combination of mild acids, some stinging usually occurs upon application. After application of the solution, your face may have white colored areas called frosting. This shows that the solution is working and usually fades within 15-30 minutes. YOUR FACE MAY APPEAR SLIGHTLY REDDER THAN USUAL FOR SOME TIME AFTER THE TREATMENT.

In most cases, peeling usually occurs between the second and fifth day following a peel. Your skin may appear very dry after treatment and some small cracks may develop. The doctor recommends a non-drying cleanser such as DOVE, NUTROGENA, OR DML. You may apply makeup as usual and also a good moisturizer lotion like cetaphil, Lubriderm, or DML. In general the peeled areas will appear mildly or moderately sunburned.

As you continue with light peel treatments, they will be spaced 2-3 weeks apart. The number of treatments required for any given problem varies with each individual person, and is determined by the physician. The number of coats of solution will vary depending on skin type.

There is no limit on the number of peels a person can receive as long as improvement continues.

You may continue to wear make up following light peeling treatments. YOU SHOULD CONTINUE USING ORAL MEDICATION, BUT TOPICALS SUCH AS retin a OR glyclic acid should not be applied for one week.

The above information describes light chemical peeling using a combination of weak acids and is primarily used as an adjunct to the anti-aging effects of RETIN A .For acne patients your doctor may recommend a different type of light chemical treatment which utilizes a weak organic called alph hydroxyl acid. In our practice, GLYCOLIC ACID is the one used. This procedure rids pores of their plugs, comedones, and unroofs pustules. Its effect is to hasten appearance improvement in patients with acne and have found it works well. The use of glycolic acids peeling is somewhat new, but references to it are beginning to appear rather frequently in magazines. We are pleased to have been among the pioneers in the USA in making the technique available to our complexion patients. Frequently, our patients with sun damaged skin have begun glycolic acid treatment before the stronger peels described above are addedSkin Peels (DCL Glycolic acid)?
Glycolic peels are quite harsh. I have similar problems (scarring and pigmentation left over from when I was a Teen). I've had an ICP peel, which has been most effective with my acne marks. I'd recommend it, and you'll heal within a week.
I have tried one of the home kits and would not recommend it.

I followed the instructions to the letter and was left with a very sore and red face for nearly a weeks.

I am sure if you have it done professionally then it will be fine.

    Good luck
Glycolic Acid is widely used and has good benefits for the skin, a chemical exfoliant providing it is not used at too high a %. I would personally recomend an less exfoliative method such as a microdermabrasion cream or glycolic pads, wipes or even a cleanser with circa 10% glycolic acid and have this as part of a daily skin care regime. Continuous non excessive exfoliation will help remove dead skin cells, increase cellular turnover and will reduce the appearance of scarring, although this will take some time 6 months plus. This would be better than a quick, invasive fix that could leave the skin red and dry for a period of time. Microdermabrasion treatments are good and do deliver results but again you would need a course of between 10 - 20 and also should continue with them as part of a good regime to keep skin is its optimum condition, down side - cost, circa 拢55 per treatment, visiting the salon and potential redness for a few hours afterwards.

Hi! I have pitted scars adn I wanna have some glycolic acid peels, can you recommend me a place to do that?

I am trying to find a cheaper place.. until now 50$/ session is the cheapest but considering the fact that I need about 6 sessions I would like to find something cheaper but that is still safe.. can you give me any ideas please?

Thank you so much!Hi! I have pitted scars adn I wanna have some glycolic acid peels, can you recommend me a place to do that?
Stop here miss. How deep are your scars? And what type of scars do you have. But assuming you said they are pitted and there on your face ill say they are acne scars. First of all I've heard that glycolic acid peels are good, however you need to do alot of them to see any affect and that could cost you a fortune. What id recomend is to try home remedies such as acv - apple cidar vinegar. I personally have tried using this for abnout 6 day and its helped with my pitted acne

scars. Also if you have pigmentation( red marks on your face), this acv method will relly help too. Also if to say the acv fails somehow, you cud always get prescribed RETIN-A micro from your dermotologist. Ive heard lots of great this about it and that it gets worst before it gets better. However if you us it consistently for a long period of time, lets say 2-3 months, i wud assure u that ur pitted marks have healed up alot. This is my 2 cents, hope it helps. gd luck.....

hmm.. if ur reading this, i use acv - apple cider vinegar and u can use any brand with 5% acidity. i can tell u more info but its kinda hard like this lol. maybe u can add me as a contact and IM me or sumthin? cuz i have questions about u using retin-a how long hav u used it for and how much did u pay for it and how much grams di u get.Hi! I have pitted scars adn I wanna have some glycolic acid peels, can you recommend me a place to do that?
You can always try a dermatologist office. They can usually do deeper peels which means it will help more. Most places will offer some form of a discount if you buy a package of treatments. You can try medical spas, regular spas, dermatologists, plastic surgeons, or even some OB offices are offering them. Laser treatments are also good to help with scarring. They can do a whole lot more in a few treatments than a glycolic peel.

Does anyone know anything about glycolic acid peels?

I have started a course of 6 glycolic acid face peels (have had 2 so far). I have them done by a nurse. The first was 10% strength for about 10 minutes and the second 20% but for just 4 minutes.

What I'd like to know is what kind of results I might get at the end of the course ( I know this varies) - has anyone had a course of these and were you happy with the results?

I'm having the treatments as I have mild acne - I tend to get only a few red spots at any one time - my major problem though is blocked pores - I have these all over my face. My skin is smooth but the pigmentation is slightly uneven due to past blemishes.

also, my skin is worse today than it has been for a while - would you expect it to get slightly worse initially, with this type of treatment?

Hope someone can help - thankyou :)Does anyone know anything about glycolic acid peels?

i used 50% glycolic peel and i had ok resuts the first time, but it wasn't a cure for anything.

i got it off ebay from perfect peel solutions. ( in addition to their directions though, i would recommend using an alcohol pad after washing your face to remove all the oil, otherwise you can end up with splotchy results the first time like i did). the first couple of days i looked gross, but after wards i saw some improvements with the acne scars i had. unfortunately when i found the down time to do the peel again (2-3 days), my skin didn't peel at all, and there was no more improvements.

to be honest i wouldn't buy anymore peels (i have bought several types off ebay, the glycolic being the strongest) they are just too unpredictable and harsh, and usually they don't work at all. what i recommend to everyone now is obagi. my dermatologist told me about it, and it cured my scars and roseca (i think it also helps with wrinkles, liver spots, and hiperpigmentation to) its not a harsh chemical, its a bleaching cream that you use daily. they recommend you buy the whole kit of 6, with face wash, toner, spf, ect. but i did what my derm. recommended and just bought the actual bleaching cream, Nu-derm # 3 clear ( i also got the ';blender #5 to take care of redness that i had, but it needs to be used with retin-a).Glycolic acid peels anyone?

Is a glycolic peel better than retinoic acid cream??

can we buy the vitamin A creams of the shelf? Is a glycolic peel better than retinoic acid cream??
My dermatologist used to use glycolic in her office but she has now stopped as she found many people reacted badly to it and got skin irritations. I also stop using it and now she has put me on a retinol cream which I apply every other night. I find my skin is better than when I used the glycolic. The retinol seems to soften my skin and without irritation. I think it's probably better but different dermatologists may have different views. It may depend on your skin type. If you are acne prone, glycolic may be more effective yet if you just want to maintain a healthy glow, retinol may be better.

Which is better glycolic acid peels or microdrmabasion crystals?

I've had a glycolic peel and I thought it was amazing! It was left on for a max of 30 sec. and tingled...my skin was soooo smooth afterward (and a little red, but that goes away fast). Make sure you get it done by a professional who knows what they're doing b/c acid on your face is nothin' to mess around with.

Will glycolic acid peels help remove acne scars?

At home peel, 40% strength. Will glycolic acid peels help remove acne scars?
For very mild cases, a professionally administered peel might help, but usually dermabrasion or laser resurfacing is recommended. The home remedy kits are not very effective. Will glycolic acid peels help remove acne scars?
no. You need to go to a medi-spa or a laser center to remove scars.
The home peels are not designed for that. They will help to slough off the dead skin cells, but for scars you would need to

Glycolic Acid - what is safe amount to use in a peel?

I have seen some up to 50% strength for sale on ebay, do it yourself kits, it's a little scary to think of doing this on my own, though... what is a SAFE amount to use that will not cause the burning and extreme peeling of a peel, but still does some good for the skin?Glycolic Acid - what is safe amount to use in a peel?
I am a Beauty Therapist so of course I am going to suggest that you have a peel done professionally because that way good quality professional only products are being used. I perform my own Glycolic Peels at home and my professional only products are not as strong as what you have mentioned.

I know that peels can be expensive so a great option is to have a treatment of peels done eg: A Glycolic facial once a week for 4 weeks or even up to 6 weeks

After this time you should then purchase a day cream which contains small amounts of Glycolic Acid, then each day that you apply your cream your skin will be rejuvenating itself and reducing acne, scarring etc.

If you still want to have the peels for an extra boost then have them done once every 4-6 weeks for maintenance

If you do choose to purchase a cream containing Glycolic Acid then ensure that you apply a sunscreen over the top of it as minimal sunlight combined with the Glycolic can burn, dry and damage your skin

I hope this has helped youGlycolic Acid - what is safe amount to use in a peel?
Generally consumer chemical peels have an concentration of 10% or less of the active agent - in this case glycolic acid - and a pH of 3.5 or more. A lower ph indicates higher acidity.

Professional chemical peel agents usually have a concentration of 20% - 30% acid.

Also each product is supposed to carry a label warning that the product causes increased sensitivity to the sun and requiring the use of a sunscreen.

Stay away from any product not made for consumer use. An improper peel can cause permanent scarring and/or skin blotchiness.
If you find out I want to know...that's a little scary.

Okay, how does this glycolic acid 30% skin peel work? My gf just bought one from the internet...?

but we're too scared to try it on...

anyway... it comes with a brush, a bottle of acid, and instruction saying that we have to have sodium bicarb to rinse the acid away...

Is it safe? Do we have to dilute the acid more? with water? distilled wwater? I browse the internet... and found some horrible testimonials after using at home glycolic acid treatment...

What is the safest level of glycolic acid? Where it won't burn your skin?Okay, how does this glycolic acid 30% skin peel work? My gf just bought one from the internet...?
OK, don't be scared to try it on, just be sure that you don't have sensitive skin, if you do i recommend not to start with a 30% level glycol, start at a 12% and work your way up. Try it on a small patch of skin for about 1 hour. you may find it does sting once you put it on, but that's normal and it will subside %26amp; wont happen once your skin is used to the product. The stinging is due to polution and environomental factors that occure on the skin, so dont be worried, its just the acid working and gently exfoliating you skin. If you do fine it makes your skin irritated or red you can put it on your face for 1minute and wash it off as a mini mask, and you will have the same exfoliating effect as if it has been on all day and night.

Note: Night time is the best time to use it, as skin is awake from 11pm on.

But if you are using it during the day remember an SPF of 30+ and try to stay out of direct sun light.

    Dont dilute it with water......

good luck.Okay, how does this glycolic acid 30% skin peel work? My gf just bought one from the internet...?
I've only used 20% but it doesn't dry me out at all and I put it on repeatedly without a worry. Give it a test but not on your face. I love my glycolic acid lotion (Aqua Glycolic) don't worry.
Yes, it is pretty safe. It will probably sting/burn a bit and you might be red afterwards.

You can dilute the acid with distilled water if you want to and I wouldn't leave it on for more than 2-5 minutes, as this is your first time. Cleanse the face first and then just apply a few drops of acid with a cotton ball or pad.

You do need the bi-carb to neutralise the acid. You just mix some in a cup of water and apply it all over. This will probably be quite uncomfortable and may fizz lol. Afterwards just rinse with a cleanser and then apply a hydrating moisturizer or occlusive dressing.

This is a pretty safe level for a peel. Good luck : )

    Glycolic acid peels every night?

What would happen if you did a glycolic acid peel (35%) every night? Would it damage your skin or help it? On the bottle it says don't use more than 2 times a week, but just wondering.Glycolic acid peels every night?
You do realize what acid peels do, right? They peel off the top layer of skin. If you use them daily, you are going to peel off all your skin. There IS a reason that package directions state no more than 2 times a week....it really is in your best interest to follow the directions.Glycolic acid peels every night?
your skin might get extremely irritated and red and itchy. its best you just follow the directions.

  • Where can I get Glycolic acid peels in chennai? Can someone help me out?

I don't know anywhere in Chennai other then maybe a dermatologist. I do know that in the USA it is against the law to sell anything over a 15% glycolic over the counter. Most peels are around 30% to 50%. Also it depends on your age. I wouldn't recommend a glycolic peel to anyone under 25 to 30 years old. If you are younger then that just get a great minimal glycolic scrub and use that around three times a week.

What is better to use for adult acne that is beginning to scar, the salicylic acid peels or the glycolic acid?

I am 30 with adult acne on my cheeks. When younger it was on my t-zone but now mostly on my cheeks and beginning to scar. I have been on accutane before. Cleared it up but it's back in different location.

I am currently using combo of dial soap, tri-derma intense fast healing in morning and acnexus and benzaclin at night. What is better to use for adult acne that is beginning to scar, the salicylic acid peels or the glycolic acid?
The best way in treating pimples and acne is to use benzoyl peroxide 5% gel (available at your local drug store) to the involved areas at night and NeoStrata alpha hydroxyacid in the morning (without using prescription medication). Some people are allergic to benzoyl peroxide. A product named Tend Skin is an effective acne treatment. Another advice is to wash your face twice a day with a mild non-soap cleanser. Do not pick or squeeze your pimples, as it can leave scars. Acne surgery can be done using sterile instruments to remove blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples.

Hope this helps you! Good Luck! What is better to use for adult acne that is beginning to scar, the salicylic acid peels or the glycolic acid?

I would prefer using salicylic acid rather than glycolic acid because it is not as aggressive. I had used both salicylic acid and glycolic acid peels before. I wished my facial lady had not use glycolic acid because my skin conditon got worst over time. It was good for the first year, but now my skin lost the shiny elastic layer. I would suggest talking to your dermatologist for an accurate skin analyst (and make sure you are not allergic to any type of acids) before trying out the peel, just to be safe.
When one has acne, there is a problem in the breakdown of what is going on inside your gut. It comes out through your skin. Try a simple liver detox, go get evaluated by a naprapath or a chiropractor. If you have a holistic M.D. you can visit or a nutritionist and they can help you with this. It could be a simple zinc deficiency. Find out why the problem is there by a professional and for the love of your self, do not take anti-biotics for this. I developed chronic fatigue from taking anti-biotics for a 6 week period. I have never been the same since and it has been about 20 years. It destroyed all the good bacteria in my gut and that is how most people run into situations like this in the first place! AHHHH!
I feel your pain!!!! I'm a good looking 30 year old woman with the acne of a teenager. I have tried just about everything. The only thing that has worked so far is a microdermabrasion cloth that I got off of eBay. I only use cold water with it being that cold water will help to close pores and the mirodermabrasion cloth will remove the dead cells that are blocking the bacteria in. I have found that just water and the cloth are way better than any chemical I have ever tried. I hope this works for you too. I am including the web page for the cloth that I use. Good luck!

  • Should I consider getting a glycolic acid peel?

Get your skin ph balanced. Get unpasteurized Apple cider vinegar at the store( Bragg's kind, usually in the health food part). put it in the small container. 50% Acv and 50% distilled water. after cleansing with a mild facial soap use this as a toner. Nothing else for a week. If that is too strong add more distilled water. After 7 days, it will balance your face and gently exfoliate your dead skin cells. Look for healthier ways to clear up your acne. Expensive products don't always mean better. Google ';naturally acne fighters'; . Even strawberries and pineapple have enzymes that can slough off dead skin cells. At 17, be sure to drink lots of water. Acne can be an indicator off something out of balance on the inside of your body as well. Be gentle to your skin. Try the ACV for a week, try to drink a gallon of water a day for the same week and then evaluate from there. Acv has helped my skin tremendously. Also if you have an indian stores near by, make a face mask of powdered neem leaves and water. The box sells for no more than 3 dollars. Neem is a naturally anti bacterial. Google it. Hope this helps.

I think my glycolic acid face peel burned certain parts of my skin it almost looks like chemical burn?

is this normal I just got the peel todayI think my glycolic acid face peel burned certain parts of my skin it almost looks like chemical burn?
Hmm... an ';acid'; face peel.... looks like a chemical burn huh. gee I wonder why?

    Lets break it down,

';acid'; a chemical that eats away at things

';face'; that would be the thing the acid ate.

';peel'; something that happens to dead skin.

Glycolic acid (or hydroxyacetic acid) Once applied, glycolic acid reacts with the upper layer of the skin, weakening the binding properties of the lipids that hold the dead skin cells together. This allows the outer skin to ';dissolve'; revealing the underlying skin.

So why are you surprized? What did you think was going to happen when you put acid on your face?I think my glycolic acid face peel burned certain parts of my skin it almost looks like chemical burn?
    how bad?

    it shouldnt look like.. destroyed

i am 34 and had it a few times at 33 because my skin is very dehydrated. It did me good. it really makes your skin tingle for a bit, but afterwards your skin looks really bright and alive. Get advice about your skin type and make sure it is suitable for you before you do it. check with a beautician if they would recommend it for you. if you would feel more comfortable, check with someone who works wherever you're buying the product. They should be able to advise you. good luck.Has anyone had a Glycolic Acid skin peel and if so what were the results?

Yes, the results will be like having baby skin again, since they literally take the upper layer of your skin and a new one is born. After that, you'll run back like crazy to get another, and another, and so on. UNTILL INSTEAD OF DISCOLORATION REAPEARS, YOU WILL NOTICE BROKEN CAPILLARIES. Have you heard of turmeric and lemon? I recently had hyperpigmentation after my last pregnancy (my baby is now 5 mo.), and I've been washing my face w/Juice Organics brightening cleanser $10. I also use Origins Gentle Microdermabrasion 4oz $36, and I also rub a little lemon mixed w/a pinch of turmeric and find this working. I have not had any harsh reactions at all and I get very nice comments on my skin by other moms who say it took them longer to get rid of all the skin problems they had associated with they're pregnancies.

I'm not sure what you mean ...

but if you already have a bottle of glycolic acid, you mix it with water -- just regular water. How much water depends on the pH of the acid and essentially, how strong you want it to be. Time factor is very important too. How long you'll have it on your skin.

It's pretty dangerous to do this yourself --- only because if not correctly formulated, you could cause more damage to your skin than actually help it.

If you really have to do your own peel (because I know peels are expensive), get some kits at http://www.makeupartistschoice.com/

General questions about Glycolic acid facial peel at home.?

I'm planning to buy the glycolic acid to do the chemical peel at home.

I'm planning to buy the 70% glycolic acid, and dilute it myself.

    1. Do I just dilute it with water?

    2. Can I dilute more at once and store it in the bottle for later use or should I dilute only one time use?

    3. Does the regular plastic travel size cosmetic container good for storing glycolic acid? Or, should I use the glass instead?

    4. I'm planning to buy the syringes for more precise dilute measurement. The syringes are plastic material with the rubber stopper insider, is it safe? Would the glycolic acid melt it?

I have acne prone combination skin. T-zone are oily in summer, and starting to have acne on my cheek.

I really don't want my face to peel, I don't mind to do the peel gradually, or a mini mask type of thing everyday.

    1. What percentage should I use to start with?

    2. Anyone done any body peel? What percentage do you use?

    3. how do you make the neutralizer with baking soda?General questions about Glycolic acid facial peel at home.?
What you are attempting to do is extremely dangerous and I strongly advise against it.

70% GA is a medical level peel. and there are things which you have not said in your post or may not know. Particularly the pH level of the acid. (a pH level of 6 is 10 times stronger in acidity than neutral (7). But a pH of 5 is 100 times stronger.. I bet even the supplier has a warning that states that is should only be used by a professional.

Acid burns cause scarring too. If you do not have experience in chemistry or medicine, I strongly advise you attemting this. Even medical aestheticians will not attempt this without accurate information pertaining the the percentage and pH of the acid.

And if any of this gets into your eyes, you will be in real trouble. Clients/patients who have this done have their eyes protected.

I work with these acids and I know what I am talking about.

This is not something that I will help you with.

microdermabrasion is always a good way to go. It not only helps w/ uneven skin tone, but helps minimize the size of the pores. Mary Kay has an excellent microdermabrasion kit for fairly cheaper than you are going to find in department stores or spas. They also have an Even Complexion Essence cream that helps with the scaring caused from acne and even helps with age-spots and brown spots. If you have any questions go to the web page, or ask a consultant. I'm a Mary Kay consultant as well.Microdermabrasion or Glycolic Acid Peel? Please Help?
Microdermabration worked well 4 me i never used acid peel, sounds kinda rough
Microdemabrasion will first serve to exfoliate, thus removal the dead cells from your skin. The peel can follow after, to maximize its effects. Start with a lower percentage of glycolic acid if you are a new user. You can safely use the L'Oreal Glycolic Acid peel (with 10% glycolic acid).

??Does a glycolic acid peel help with redness from artificial scarring? Does it help immediately after the peel
Yes, as long as a soothing facial mask and then day cream are applied afterwards then you should see results immediately.

For the best results for your scarring you should have a few treatments

eg: Glycolic Facial once a week for 4-6 weeks

You can also purchase facial creams that contain small amounts of Glycolic acid in them- and each time you apply them you will be helping to heal your scars whilst also preventing premature ageing.

From what i know about it; i would say no. They are both ';acidic';; they basically do the same thing, but salicylic acid i think is a tad more powerful. You want to use it on your skin? I wouldn't, especially if its sensitive. If you want to use both; do it, but at different times.
I wouldn't. It can cause severe skin irritation if not burns. Either do one or the other but definitely not both.

  • Glycolic acid peel is that the best treatment for acne scars, if not please tell me which is thank u?

YES as far as in a Salon, Glycolic Acid is probably the strongest exfoliation treament that will help wih scars. Exfoliation is key. Keep in mind depending on how bad the scars are it cant be guarranteed they will go away completely.

Otherwise go to a dermatologist to do Microdermabrasion or Facial Resurfacing(more money) which is more aggresive and effective.

BTW- Shea/cocoa butter will not get rid if scars! It can help PREVENT them(sure but it will break you out, way to much oils) but will def not get rid of scars.

    GOOD LUCK!

Has anyone ever brought a specific salicylic/glycolic acid peel on-line, was it effective?

They are much milder than at a salon so are safe. Read directions carefully. Personally, I like Pond's purely polished micro-dermabrasion. It's about $10. Can be used 3 x week.Has anyone ever brought a specific salicylic/glycolic acid peel on-line, was it effective?
Thermal Fusion Enzyme Masque is a safe and natural alternative to Retin A, Renova, Glycolic Acid and other harsh chemical peels. It contains a green, unripened papaya enzyme called Papain. Can be used 5x's per week, but not recommended if you have sensitive skin.

Where in Beijing can I get a lactic acid peel or glycolic acid peel for my face? how much should i pay?

I'm not sure if that is considered cosmetic surgery or a spa treatment, but assuming you are non-chinese, there are spa advertisements in That's Beijing magazine that would give you some places to call. for cosmetic surgery there are many doctors that would do it - its very popular - but you shouldnt trust most of them. Peking University hospital has a cosmetic surgery center, I would go there to start. Expect to pay a price not much different than you would in the US.

I've used 10% glycolic acid peel... and now my face has burn marks... what can i do to heel does mark fast...?

I wore it the night before and when I woke the next morning I had burn marks on my left cheek... what home remedies can I use to heel these brown burn marks.?I've used 10% glycolic acid peel... and now my face has burn marks... what can i do to heel does mark fast...?
1.coconut water and sandal wood paste. ull get sandal wood chunks frm any indian herb shop ( they will also sel teh stone ull need to rub the wood on to make ur paste) n coconut water frm super market.1 chunk will go for a very very long time. put a few drops of water on the stone n rub the wood on dat water .. after some rubbing ull c the water drops r murky. dat means wood particles r mixing in the water. make it little more thick then put this on ur burn marks as mch as possible. u can also buy sandal wood powder ( easier ) n mix little coconut water n do the same.. but i find wood mch more effective.

    2. do not go to the sun with these marks. even if u hav 2 make sure u use sunscreen %26amp; umbrella to shade frm sun. u wnt believe how easily the sun can make thm turn dark n ugly.

    3. if ur marks r aready dark,go to the doc n get a cream dat has hydroquinine in it. will help to make dat spot lose melaline hopefully.

    hope this helped.

I got a glycolic acid peel and now well?

Well the first 2 weeks after the peel my face looked great less acne, less wrinkles, skin tone improvement. Then the third week I started to get my acne back and my large pores came back to why did this happen? Ive been following all of the estheticians advice on how to care for my face so thats not the problem. Is this normal after these peels?I got a glycolic acid peel and now well?
I would say it's expected. The peel just ate off the top few layers of skin, which is why your skin looked so great at first. But now all your skin has regrown and everything is back to normal, so whatever was causing your acne then is back as well.

As for the pores, as long as your skin is clean (ie...nothing is clogging up the pore causing it to expand out and look larger), then what you see is your natural pore size. Some people naturally have slightly larger ones than others (genetic).

Have you ever had glycolic acid peel or microdermabrasion? I m trying to get rid of some acne scars?

I've had both and this is my conclusion: they both are non-invasive (they don't hurt, need no downtime nd have almost no side effects), aren't as expensive as other non-surgical rejuvenation techniques, but only work on superficial skin imperfections, like acne scars, wrinkles, clogged pores and sun spots.

The glycolic peel uses a chemical exfoliator (an AHA acid - natural fruit acid) to abrade the uppermost layer of skin, while microdermabrasion uses a high-pressure flow of micro crystals that exfoliate a few microns from the surface of the skin.

Before deciding what procedure is best for you, have a talk with your physician, he should be able to advise you according to your expectations and medical history.

Hope this helps and good luck,

Joanna.Have you ever had glycolic acid peel or microdermabrasion? I m trying to get rid of some acne scars?

Yes I have done both. I got better results from the microdermabrasion. The acid peel was so painful and I would never do it again. It almost ruined my skin. The microdermabrasion must be done with a machine to get the best results. I had real bad scars and they were gone in about 3 treatments. It depends on how deep they are. The deeper they are the more treatments it takes. It cost me $100 per treatment and was worth it. The acid peel cost me $300 and I looked like someone had torched my face. It peeled for weeks and looked awful. I didn't think it would ever look normal again.

hey sweetie I am an esthetician and you should be very careful with that, a thirty percent glycolic is pretty strong and could make you peel and make sure that you can wash it off with water because sometimes that can activate it, it is derived from sugar cane which means that you have to balance Report Abuse

Has anyone ever tried a glycolic acid peel for acne scars?

If so, how noticeable was the difference? Does it only work for red scars or will it work for pitted acne scars as well?Has anyone ever tried a glycolic acid peel for acne scars?
I had a TCA acid peel which is deeper than the glycolic peels. It was 25% and on for only 2mins. I didn't have it for acne scars, just to make my skin better over all, however i have to be honest and say that once my whole face had peeled (and peel it did - i could not anywhere for a week), i wasn't so impressed. I thought that i would have flawless skin after, but really there was not a lot of difference.

I've since spoken to a dermatologist who told me that although the peel i had was deeper, better results are achieved through having regular glycolic peels. I think it will help a lot for scars, but you will have to be committed to it and keep having them done regularly to see results. I don't think that a one off will make a lot of difference at all. You could start to have them done weekly and i bet after a few months you would notice a difference.

Loreal have a glycolic acid home kit too - you could also try that, although it would be weaker than what you would get done in a clinic, but perhaps you could use that in-between your clinic peels.

Don't worry about what peeling your skin will do - its actually good for your skin as it slows down the aging process, just as long as you wear a high sun protection factor on your face if you are sunbathing, then it will be fine.

Also find out about using a glycolic acid lotion or cream on your skin at night - you can get these from a clinic or dermatologist.Has anyone ever tried a glycolic acid peel for acne scars?
I had a friend who had it done. She had pitted scars. It looked really bad after it was first done, but looked about 75%-85% better after the redness wore off.
You do not need any chemical or surgical treatment. This is a simple, NATURAL, safe, low cost treatment the really works. Answer was chosen 5 star Best Answer by Asker who responded it was working after 3 days. Vitamin E capsules are a very effective cure but you have to APPLY CAPSULE CONTENTS DIRECTLY TO THE SKIN. I know for a fact that when someone has face lift surgery doctors tell patient to do precisely this to hasten healing and minimize scarring. You will see results in two to four days. ALSO another very effective treatment which can be used in conjunction with the above is to use an organic or natural oil, coconut oil works well- massage face with quite a strong, vigorous motion - that part is important - once a day (best at night as will make face flushed). You will find you can make it more vigorous as you progress. Skin is always renewing, the vigorous massaging hastens a spot and blemish free new skin to emerge. Initially, the skin has to adjust and if soreness or other reactions happen - the skin might expel poisons that need to be expelled - then stop and resume when you can. You have to find the pace that works for you - it's different for every person. Stick with it %26amp; in a week or so you will see an improvement and overtime you will have a completely spot free, clear and healthy radiant skin. Some have used this treatment and have found it permanently rids skin of pimples and all other kinds of skin problems. You will never need any other treatment, will not need moisturisers or other products - only unhealthy skins need all those. It also dramatically minimises any wrinkles or other signs of skin aging.

Many skin problems are the result of cleaning with soaps, other products used on skin which contain harsh chemicals, other ingredients. Only use very mild cleaners and products.

The tea tree oil face wash will help a lot.

Actually putting vitamin E on scars will not work...I have tried it. I have suffered from acne for 15 years and tried everything out there. Glycolic peels will help but in some cases they don't go deep enough, talk to your doctor or derm about a deeper peel, like a TCA peel.

I am currently using Obagi Nu-derm to help diminish my scars and find it is working really great (has been only about three weeks so I can't wait to see what my skin looks like in another six to eight weeks). The thing with Obagi is that it uses Retin-A(tretinoin) to penetrate to the deeper layers of the skin and stimulates production of collagen and elastin. What this does is helps your skin reproduce healthier skin cells at a healther rate. You will experience some peeling and redness in the beginning, this is just getting rid of the old unhealthy layer of skin on top, the longer you use it the healthier your skin becomes...helps with fine lines and premature aging due to sun exposure too.

Check out the website www.obagi.com and talk to you dermatologist about it - It really works.

Nothing happened post glycolic acid peel?

I ordered a 50% glycolic acid peel online with a pH of 2.0 and have used it twice so far. I felt the burning both times. Both times there was minimal redness initially which went away immediately. There was and has been no flaking or peeling. I did notice that my skin felt very hard and dry right before I used it the 2nd time. But it is not what I expected. Will it get better with repeated use?Nothing happened post glycolic acid peel?
i ordered the same strength glycolic from ebay and nothing at all happened. put it on two days ago. felt a bit itchy when on and a tiny bit tingly, but no redness or peeling or any difference to skin and i left it on for five mins. ebay seller isn't responding to emails. i wonder if some of them have been watered down

Is 35% of glycolic acid peel considered a mild peel? What precatuions must be taken before & after a peel?

I Yahoo'd glycolic peels and found 478K sites.....some were selling kits from $15 to $145. I'm sure that is a decent beginning for you. Just be careful! If you have even a hint of sensitive skin, please let a professional do this kind of peel to your face! I had a dermatologist who made some creams in his garage for rosacea back in thr 80s and I put some of the cream on and just the heat off sitting next to a light bulb in a lamp burned my face awful! I woke up the next morning looking 90 yrs old ( I was 23) and my face was scabbed over for a month. Luckily I got a totally new face for it, but it wasn't supposed to happen that way and I was very lucky not to have damaged my skin for ever.
